Festivals Adelaide brings together the city’s ten major arts festivals to collaborate and use their collective capacity to deliver new initiatives to grow audiences and boost South Australia’s reputation as the Festival State.
Festivals Adelaide is the first alliance of one city’s major arts and cultural festivals in the southern hemisphere.
Representatives of the main arts festivals presented and produced in Adelaide were inspired to develop a collaborative approach similar to Festivals Edinburgh, which focuses on strategic planning, marketing, program development and infrastructure.
The Adelaide festivals collectively generate a huge economic impact, promote and encourage access to the arts, and contribute significantly to South Australia’s local and national identity.
An impressive economic impact study commissioned by Festivals Adelaide revealed: total attendances at Festivals Adelaide events in 2012 of around $2.82 million with over 590,000 tickets sold; some 63,850 of these were visitors to South Australia; an estimated positive economic impact on the state’s economy of $62.9 million in new incomes, and the creation of 790 full-time equivalent jobs directly related to delivering Adelaide’s ten major festivals.
We supported Festivals Adelaide by funding its establishment with $60 000 in 2011 as a Capital City Committee project and discussing how the South Australian Government and City of Adelaide could continue supporting the organisation in 2012 and beyond.
